Pour it On!

It’s no secret that, for many family gatherings, what’s being served at the bar can determine success or failure. So if you want guests to be satisfied with their libations, you may want to consider hiring a beverage expert for the cocktail hour. “Hiring a beverage consultant will lower your costs greatly,” says Marlon Hall, beverage director for HOBNOB. “If you have someone else pouring drinks, there’s no idea of percentages or recipes—it’s kind of a free for all.” If you’re considering a signature cocktail at the reception, Hall recommends champagne-based cocktails because they’re lighter and easier to drink for most guests. He also suggests keeping the ingredients simple. “You don’t want guests to have to wait in a long line because there are 15 elements and ingredients in the drink.”
