Natalie and Patrick had been dating three years when they decided to go looking for shark teeth on Ponte Vedra Beach. It was something they often did, but today was different. Typically, Patrick, an expert shark tooth hunter, would help Natalie find some by drawing circles in the sand around teeth she was likely to miss, but today he was planting his own treasure and around it he drew a heart.
Patrick called over to Natalie and told her he saw some big ones, to which she replied, “I can find them on my own, Pat.” When she didn’t find any she walked over to him and found not a tooth, but his great-grandmother’s engagement ring in the sand.
Patrick got down on one knee and planned on saying the words that typically come with the situation, but found himself speechless. “Are you asking me to marry you?” Natalie asked. Patrick, still without words, nodded eagerly and held the ring out toward her. Natalie’s response was an eager, “Of course!”
