Mo & Sonia

March 18, 2017

It wasn’t until five years into their friendship that Mo and Sonia decided to take it one step further. For these two, the decision to go from friends to more than that ended up being the right one.

Every year they would celebrate, just the two of them, the night before Christmas Eve, dedicating the other days of the holiday to family. Each year was memorable, but one in particular will always stand out.

After dinner at 13 Gypsies and a quick stop at Bold Bean for some coffee and a reminiscence of their first date there they went home to exchange gifts. Nestled inside Mo’s stocking was a small book from Sonia. She opened it up and found each page filled with a heartfelt dedication to their love. Written on the last page was, “Will you marry me?”

After reading through the book and coming to the last page Mo looked up to see that wasn’t her only gift. Ready to add another chapter to their story, Sonia also presented an engagement ring. Having suspected the moment coming Mo pulled out the ring she had for Sonia and proposed right back to her.

The couple planned for a ring bearer, but the little boy fell asleep before the ceremony and wasn’t able to make it down the isle. • Mo surprised Sonia with an armadillo groom’s cake as an homage to their favorite movie, Steel Magnolias, and bacon chocolate chip cookies.

“Sonia was born in Puerto Rico and she had a lot of family fly in for the wedding, so it was important that we pay homage to the island by incorporating music and food specific to Puerto Rico,” Mo explains. Sonia’s cousins surprised them with an authentic Paranda dance during the reception. • “Instead of having a first dance, we opted for a last dance. While our guests were preparing our sparkler send off, we took a moment and had a final dance alone to reflect on the evening,” says Mo.
