Jamie & Jason

March 3, 2018

Some people can go a lifetime without even meeting the person with whom they will spend the rest of their lives. That’s not the case with Jamie and Jason, who met when they were just toddlers at Old Kings Elementary School. They rode to school on the same yellow bus and sat across from each other at lunch in the cafeteria. However, they admit it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.

“I remember teasing him and calling him ‘porcupine’ because he had a frosted-tip, spiky hairdo,” laughs Jamie. By eighth grade the attraction presented itself, and the couple ventured to Epic Theatre on a first date, popcorn in hand and ready to see Alien vs. Predator. Later, on a golf cart ride around the neighborhood—since they were still too young to have driver’s licenses—Jason asked Jamie to be his girlfriend. The romance continued through years of high school and beyond graduation.

As the couple matured into young adults they found a common interest in trucks. When Jamie wanted to get herself new rims, Jason seized the opportunity and picked them up himself. “Later that day he told me to come over, and when I walked in the door there was a huge brown box in the middle of his mom’s kitchen. When I opened it up there was one of my rims, and a super sparkly engagement ring in the middle one. He then proceeded to get down on one knee and pop the question,” says Jamie.

The couple gave rain lilies from Jamie’s grandmother’s garden as favors. Written on the mini pots was “Seedlings from my grandma’s rain lilies. Keep me watered. Plant me in the ground. Watch me grow and multiply!”

“My father daughter dance song was ‘I Loved her First’ by Heartland. I picked it out probably around the time I was 15,” says Jamie.

“Everyone who knows me knows my pig obsession. So, right after we finished getting ready and were taking some bridesmaid pictures, I turned my head and saw three little pigs—Prissy, Pop, and baby Penn—dressed as a bride, groom and baby groom coming my way in a stroller. I was so shocked and surprised I started to tear up,” says Jamie.

The cake toppers were made to look exactly like the couple’s French bulldogs,
Maisie and Lulu.
