Jadon Thompson and Matthew Faust first met as college students while studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. Their first meal together was a fitting combo of kangaroo filet with a couple of Tooheys, the most popular local brew. The next stop on their program was in New Zealand. As Jadon and Matt boarded the plane, they realized that out of the two hundred seats, theirs were next to each other. It was meant to be. Throughout their travels, the pair became very close, and after seven months of being “just friends,” Matt asked Jadon if she’d like to officially be his girlfriend, and of course, she said yes. After their overseas semester was over, both Jadon and Matt had to head back to their respective colleges, but the pair decided to make a long-distance relationship work and stay together. Jadon says it was largely due to Southwest Airlines’ student discounts. Four years to the day after the couple met, the pair went on a Thompson family ski trip to Utah. After lunch one day, Matt surprised Jadon with a dogsledding trip, another thing she couldn’t turn down. When the duo got to the top, Matt hopped out of the sled, got down on one knee and with the most epic of proposal backdrops, proposed to his best friend. Jadon and Matt were able to celebrate with their family as soon as they got back to the hotel. The families continued the winter wonderland celebration until the wedding day and their New Year’s Eve-themed ceremony.
While the dress was brand new, Jadon’s “something borrowed” was her mother’s veil. • Florals were found everywhere, including a Preston Bailey-inspired peacock, crafted completely out of flowers. Even the cake sat atop a floor length cloth, completely covered in white and light pink blossoms. • Monograms are a staple in the South, and so, of course Jadon created a duo-gram for the big day that featured both her and Matthew’s names. • The dozen bridesmaids included Jadon’s sisters, childhood and college friends, as well as a few fellow students who traveled abroad with Jadon and Matthew when they first met.
Guests were greeted by a server decked out in a full acrylic dress with rows of champagne glasses. • Matthew didn’t have many wedding requests. He did say, however, that he wanted a burger bar and a fun band. Jadon and her mom found a musical crew that wowed everyone. • No New Year’s party would be complete without fireworks, so at the end of the night Jadon and Matthew had a full-on fireworks display to celebrate their union.
