Elizabeth & Gerald

November 19, 2016

In 2005 Gerald laid eyes on Elizabeth while they were both working at World Golf Village. It may have been love at first sight, however, after a few years daily life got in the way. They each took separate paths, but never stopped thinking about one another.  Four years later, “of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world,” Gerald walked into the wine bar Elizabeth frequented. “It was love at first sight all over again. As if no time had passed, we instantly started talking every day and courting a new beginning,” Elizabeth recalls.  Eleven years later, they were strolling through St. Augustine, right across from their infamous “gin joint,” when Gerald got down on one knee and made Elizabeth’s dream come true. “I could not stop the flood gate of tears as I said, ‘yes!’ I was the happiest girl in the world.”

“I had part of my mother’s wedding veil cut in the shape of a heart and sewed into the inner lining of my dress,” Elizabeth explains as her something old. • Her something new was the dress itself. Something borrowed was a brooch from her grandmother. And the something blue was a jewel on the bottom of her shoe.

During his toast Elizabeth’s father brought out a bottle of Dom Perignon he bought the year she was born. “It has been our most prized possession because my father told me that he was going to open it the day I got married. When he pulled it out and it popped, it was 34 years in the making.” • “We surprised everyone with a fireworks show at the end. No one knew it was coming, including the groom. I remember him leaning over during it while smiling and asking ‘How much did this just cost us?’ It was priceless!”
