How to de-stress before the big day

// by Emily Bailey

A wedding day is often the happiest moment in one’s life… but the days leading up to it can be some of the most stressful. While there’s no avoiding this—what with all the preparations, decisions, people involved and family flying in—there are some things brides can look forward to when prepping for the big day.

“Things like hair and nails have to be done and can be relaxing, but a massage is the most missed and potentially one of the most important things that can be done to relax,” says Melissa Deese, spa director at The Spa at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. “I would recommend a massage with a scrub. It makes skin look great, releases muscle tension and helps brides feel like they can accomplish anything.”

Beyond actual preparations, Deese suggests setting aside time to spend with friends and family. “Take some time to spend with your girlfriends. Looking back at my wedding, it all went by so fast, and I wish I would have set aside more time for them.”

Bachelorette or bridal parties are popular, but for a more serene option opt for a pampering party. Places such as Lash, in Jax Beach, can incorporate skin and eyelash prep and even champagne into the fun—leaving all the girls feeling much better than they would if a night was spent at a bachelorette party.

“Coming here provides the opportunity to slow down and be present. Take a pause, be present and get pampered,” says Lash owner Tammy Barr.
