Alternative Altars

The exchanging of the vows, rings and the kiss traditionally take place in front of an altar, which is why many of today’s brides have been putting extra thought and originality into unique spaces that set the scene. While couples often utilize standing altars, a modern take is to say “I do” under suspended pieces. Drape the installation in flowers, pampas grass or macramé designs for added texture. Sticking with standing doesn’t always mean traditional, though, as funky shapes such as circles, triangles or a variety of unusual figures have made their way onto the scene. —Erin Garnett
